Happy New Year everyone! It's been a decade since the millennium and I still can't believe it.
I remember 2009 being quite a difficult year as I was struggling a lot with my life. I had a lot of confidence because I started off so well at the beginning, but ended up having my weakest emotional moment in like so many years. Then I started to reach out for my family and friends. They just never failed to keep me going.
So I want to have a better year and start over with a clean slate for 2010. It's a new decade, I have this new job, I am surrounded by these new group of people and I just don't want to limit myself the way that I did in 2009. I want to be free and go out there and do things!

I was not too crazy about last season's Givenchy collection although it was all over fashion magazines (Homme+, Dazed & Confused) and spotted by huge numbers of attendees at the fashion week.
I just thought that the whole idea of shorts, legging and gladiator brogues was a little bit too much.
But for Spring 2010, I couldn't help but love the collection because this time around Ricardo Tisci successfully injected some balance to the collection. The shorts and leggings are still there but the suits, the studded sandals and the drop-crotch pants are simply to die for.

The last time I felt excited about watching ANTM was when Whitney won the title. I started to lose interest after that. But I heard they are bringing in Andre Leon Talley of Vogue to judge Cycle 14.
Let's see what will happen.

I spent the long weekend at my parents’ instead of out partying for Christmas. The truth is, I was such a mess and needed a few days at home to straighten myself out. I skipped my best-friend’s engagement ceremony for one whole day of staring blankly at the TV set. I wanted to be there so badly but I just couldn’t bring myself to brave the crowd and take the two-hour trip back to the city.
I’m just exhausted…
This whole minor breakdown thing is the outcome of starting a new job (first couple of weeks always difficult, I know), my empty wallet, lack of sleep, skin breakout as a result of that and my poor judgment on human characters that leads me to sharing a house with a half-blind, overweight and equally annoying she-male.
But friends, I don’t want to talk about that because I won’t allow someone who looks like a pile of shit to make me feel bad anymore. Gosh I hate him… her or whatever!
I just want to look forward to 2010 because 2009 has taken a lot from me. I have pretty much spent the whole year walking around aimlessly feeling worthless and stupid. I can’t wait for 2010, another chance to make it right…

I watched this 2008 movie again just now in my office. I love it so much. I think it's just wonderful how the entire movie revolves around the aftermath of Anne Hathaway's character's fucked up life without having a single flashback scene to help tell the story.
Anne Hathaway should have won that Oscar.
P/S: I went to the cinema for New Moon and Jen Aniston's Love Happens as well. Not really the best movie ever, but they are not too bad.

I browsed through the net and checked out some blogs and Facebook profiles. Man, I have to tell you! There's a lot of obsessing going on. There are people obsessing over their looks, a couple of way too overjoyed parents who share every single details about their first child, a newlywed obsessing over her husband and their so-called marital bliss and there are also those who are still in search for something to be obsessed with.
I'm obsessed with fashion for sure. But I don't think I can say that it's my reason to breathe because that is just a whole bunch of crap. This is not a runway show this is real life.
So next time when I talk about Gucci or Marc Jacobs...
You know it's not the only thing I got on my mind...

Sunday saw another death of yet another young star. It's Brittany Murphy. Brittany Murphy made her mark in the industry starring in movies such as Clueless, 8 Mile and Girl, Interrupted.
She died of cardiac arrest at only 32 which leads people to speculate about drug overdose.
But less than a month ago Perez Hiton blogged about Brittany being fired from a movie production. It might be that or she is just another victim of the ongoing battle to stay thin.

Hanneli started off as a model and later work as an MTV Norway veejay. But the world started to take notice of Hanneli when she make a sudden shift of career into a stylist, style-blogger and photographer. She started her blog hanneli.com after realizing that very few people actually understand her Norwegian blog. Her blog is all about her daily activities, stylish people and breathtaking photographs, which can be her own or from magazines like Vogue.
She even once blogged about her day at the fashion week in Paris for Stylefile blog section on style.com.
Don't you get it?! Hannef-Hanneli? Hanneli-Hannef?

I think her new album Rated R is great. She's more mature and people are giving bad reviews just because they wanted to hear another 'Umbrella'.

Yesterday I had a day off before starting my new job. So I was all over the city running errands. I paid the bills, had my haircut, bought new bedsheets and toiletries, hang out with some friends and the list goes on...
So now its the day after. I'm sitting here in my new office and thank God they have internet connection. Not exactly speeding bullet speed but its better than nothing. I'm doing the whole awkward first week routine all over again; having lunch alone, sneaking out for cigarette break, weird stares from students and admin people...
Gawd I hate this...
But a reality show singing sensation once sang, 'It will all get better in time'.
Give me two weeks and I'll be okay.
P/S: Thanks Nizam for the 2010 planner.

And today is my last day here at this language school. As any other previous jobs that I walkaway from, I always have mixed feelings. But its okay. At least I know that I'm moving on.
I broke the news to the students last week. They were not happy but they'll get over it soon. I'm not really a good teacher anyway. Ha-ha!

I always try to support our local Malaysian designers. There are some really good designers here in our sunny country without a doubt although I have to say that there are also some copycats and others who should pick up a few examples from people like Tom Abang Saufi, Zang Toi, Melinda Looi and Bernard Chandran. These are all very important designers in Malaysian fashion industry. Tom Abang Saufi for example has had her designs worn by Cherie Blair, of course the wife of Tony Blair. Zang Toi has celebrities like Eva Longoria- Parker, Ivana Trump, Beverly Johnson and Meg Ryan in his designs as well as collaborated with jewelry designer Wendy Brandes for one of his collections. As for Melinda Looi, her avant-garde designs has won her countless fashion awards and earned her so many recognitions and praises from all over the world. And of course Mr. Bernard Chandran who’s collection now can even be seen on Vogue websites, showed at London Fashion Week and had his designs worn by the like of Estelle, Lady GaGa and many other edgy fashionistas.
Bernard Chandran is going on full-force at the moment. He’s all over the place and his designs are highly praised. He is definitely on top of the world right now. And as for an entertainment industry and Hollywood-crazed writer like myself, I was more than thrilled to find out that pop phenomenon like Lady GaGa has worn his designs on Jay Leno show, The 2009 Brit Awards, magazines photo shoots and even while just shopping around in London.
I have to be honest that I was a little bit skeptical in the past. I saw his earlier collection and it was not that strong compared to what they already have there in London, Paris or Italy. But for his Spring/Summer 2010 collection, Bernard Chandran has taken the whole design elements to the next level. They are new, edgy and very cohesive. It is innovative and very futuristic that upon the first look I was mistaken it for Hussein Chalayan and Balenciaga.
The color combinations really screams ‘summer’ with splashes of orange and blue over shiny gold, silver and black. The uber famous signature lantern-skirts made another appearance this time around in more rounded shape along with more structured and architectural bodice. For instance the huge V-neck and heavy cape that certainly adds serious amount of drama to the collection. But Bernard managed to soften it all up with flowy fabrics and floral motives.
Bernard also maintained some elements of Asian with some mandarin collars and Vietnam-style hat. The accessories are quirky and they really compliment the whole collection with glittery bird-like mask, gold fish head piece and also the metallic ribbon shoes.
Overall, Bernard Chandran Spring/Summer 2010 is a very inspiring collection with a lot of surprises and a total 180 from his earlier collection the first time he showed at the Fashion Week. I am not going to get into the whole patriotic-sspeech here, but I have to say that if there’s one designer that really put Malaysia on the international fashion map, it’s definitely Bernard Chandran.
**I wrote this piece about Bernard Chandran for Emmagem after seing some photos of Lady GaGa wearing his creations HERE and HERE. But the next morning I got a text message from my editor saying that they have already reviewed Bernard Chandran Spring/Summer 2010 collection quite some time ago.
**So I had to write ANOTHER ONE within a couple of hours in between teaching that day.

I ran home from work like a mad person last Saturday because Wafi and Anne bought the midnight show tickets for New Moon. I was drenched in sweat and it was as if like my t-shirt was plastered on my skin when I get there. I sat next to Anne and she kinda spoiled and shit all over the movie just because she already read the book...
Sunday at the same place but for different purpose this time with Nizam. I have just two words: SHOE SHOPPING! I finally bought the ankle black boots that I saw last month. I am wearing them right now in the office. They are just exactly the right size, design, color and most importantly, price. I can wear them with my skinny office pants as well as my skinny jeans. How cool is that?!
Next time I'll take the photo but as for now, I still love my Reeboks.
Ohh! And my new article on Chloe Sevigny is on emmagem.com. Read it HERE.
