The Jazz Collection by Comyns

Remember when the movie “The Great Gatsby” first came out? All of a sudden we found ourselves obsessing over the “Roaring Twenties” with all the pearls and feathers, Leo DiCaprio’s perfectly gelled side-part and the sickening theme song “Young &Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey. And I can tell you there were at least 10 separate occasions that I had to swallow my own vomit when I saw photos of people throwing their own Gatsby-inspired events like birthdays, anniversaries and fashion parties. Bleurgh!

But we’ve moved on and when someone mentioned Gatsby or “old sport” my ears don’t bleed anymore. I even said yes to the invitation by Comyns to attend the launch of their Twenties jazz-inspired jewellery collection.

Comyns commemorates this great era with its latest Art Deco-inspired jewellery collection. A combination of grace, femininity and strength, Jazz captures the mood of 1920’s American social elegance and enjoyment of life before the Great Depression.

Combining solid geometry and fluidity, Jazz is a great portrayal of the streamlined form which is classic Art Deco. The geometric fan motif which defines the Jazz collection is a contemporary take of the fan motifs from the Chrysler building in New York City, one of the most iconic Art Deco skyscrapers in the world. Wow!

Comprising of wrist cuff, earrings, ring and two pendant designs, Jazz is a collection for women of all ages. Made of sterling silver and crafted by Comyns artisans through traditional English methods of silversmithing, every creation of Comyns carries four hallmarks to certify its quality; the William Comyns hallmark, the fineness of silver content, the assay office mark and the date letter or year of assay.

This new collection is available at Comyns boutiques in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Royal Selangor Visitor Centre and selected Royal Selangor stores. The collection is priced between RM590 and RM1,550. Go get yours today!

Miranda Kerr for ESCADA Joyful

Miranda Kerr is the face of ESCADA's new fragrance ESCADA Joyful!

According to the Aussie beauty, Escada Joyful is all about seizing the small opportunities, as well as finding pleasure and joy in the moments that make up your day. It reminded her of the beautiful memories of hand-picking a fresh bouquet of flowers. Miranda loves the delicate pink peony undertone of the perfume which happens to be one of her favorite flowers.

The campaign was shot by Nathaniel Goldberg in New York’s Roosevelt Island. It is built around the concept of tranquil gardens hidden in a bustling city. Miranda was dressed in a specially designed ESCADA gown, with the wind brushing against her face, she walks carefree then sees a splendid carousel in the distance. Anticipating the pleasure and joy, she runs to the carousel and climbs on. She lives in the moment, relishing the #JoyfulMoments (note the hashtag)- enjoying her ride with the city skyline in the background.

So if you are in need of a little bit of joy in your life, get your ESCADA Joyful today at all leading department store and Escada boutique. Prices start at RM104.

The Secrets of Atmos at Jaeger-LeCoultre Starhill Boutique

I have been receiving newsletters and invitations from Swiss watch brand Jaeger LeCoultre for quite sometimes but it was not until recently that I finally made it to one of its soirées. Held at the brand's Starhill Gallery boutique, we were called upon to gather and witness the genius invention from 1928 that is The Atmos Clock.

Forget your lame battery operated Ikea clocks because the Atmos extracts its energy from the slightest variations in temperature which means it lives on irregular temperature conditions. Or simply put, there is no AA or AAA needed to power your clock. It can work for decades and even centuries without any human intervention!

The secret actually lies in the prodigiously accurate and low-consumption mechanism that comes tantalisingly close to one of humankind’s oldest dreams: perpetual motion.

How it works

Boo! I took a selfie!

Fun Facts

  • A one-degree temperature difference supplies the Atmos with enough energy to run for 48 hours.
  • The Atmos uses so little energy that a fly landing on the minute hand could stop it.
  • 60 million Atmos clocks would use as much energy as a 15-watt electric bulb.
  • The Atmos can accumulate a power reserve of up to one year.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Classique Phases de Lune Q5117201

  • The mechanism of the Atmos is so perfect that the gear-train requires no lubrication.
  • The moon-phase mechanism of the Atmos is so accurate that it will display a mere one-day discrepancy after 3,821 years!
  • The metal alloy of the Elinvar® wire is so hard to obtain that the stock is kept in a bank vault
